Thornton Brothers Collects Goods for Area Non Profits

Clay Gilbert, Thornton Brothers president, and all Thornton Brother’s employees spent the past several weeks collecting canned goods and other products for several local organizations. Donations included diapers, tissue, canned foods and other paper goods to several organizations that reach out to the community such as Project Safe, The Salvation Army, The Athens Area Food Bank and The Athens Area Homeless Shelter.

Jimbo Thornton, Jr. Announces his Retirement

Athens businessman James F. “Jimbo” Thornton Jr., who has served as president and owner of Thornton Brothers Paper Co. since 1988, retired from the company on April 1. Thornton, who worked with the Athens business for 45 years, will be succeeded by his son-in-law Clay Gilbert, to whom he has sold the company. The company was founded by Charles W.
