Clay Gilbert
President
Clay Gilbert, president of Thornton Brothers since 2003, has been with the company since 1995. A native of Atlanta, Clay came to the company as General Manager with experience in operations and sales.
“I wanted to apply the lessons from my career and help a growing company become a leading organization in the industry and community,” says Clay. Under his direction, Thornton Brothers has thrived as a leading distributor and fostered valuable relationships within the community.
“We are a third generation business, which is somewhat rare,” says Clay, who is Jimbo Thornton’s son-in-law. “As we grow, it really makes me appreciate the culture that the Thorntons created and developed over the decades.”
Clay attended Georgia Institute of Technology for his undergraduate degree, and received an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is active in St. James United Methodist Church, and served as Chair of the Workforce Committee for Partners for a Prosperous Athens (now called OneAthens).
Clay resides in Athens, Georgia with his wife Rosalind, daughter Anne Lanier, and their dog Sunshine.
